EDUCATION

Education is a large priority in Seychelles, with the second highest budget allocation in the region. Universal access to education has been achieved and efforts on bettering the curriculum continues. There are 32 pre-primary schools 26 primary schools and 13 secondary schools that cater over 20,000 students. The Personal and Social Education programme is integrated into the school curriculum, created by the Ministry of Education. The programme was officially launched in 1998 with the assistance of the UNFPA and include: education, career education and guidance, education for citizenship and family life health education. It addresses important life skills including sexuality, gender roles among others. However, no formal comprehensive sexuality education programme for out-of-school young people has been provided yet.

SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

There is an increase in the number of teenage pregnancies in the country while HIV prevalence is around .8%. The pandemic is concentrated in the key populations of injection drug users and men who have sex with men. Health care is also free and available for all citizens.
